120205 To photograph a heron …

I paddled back against the sun
and turned to have another run
past the heron.

A gum tree sacrificed a leaf.
When I looked back, in disbelief,
the bird was gone.

Though there was not the slightest breeze,
I swear I heard those old gum trees
sigh with relief.

Lovely. We have lots of herons on Lake Erie.

This is little gem! Small, perfectly cut, and sparkling! I admire the economy of words – just a few lines, a few precise details, and the whole picture is there.
